HAZLETON, Pa. -- On Saturday, November 4th, shortly after 2 o'clock in the afternoon, Hazleton Police attempted to stop a dirt bike that was operated erratically on SRO424, Can Do Expressway.
The operator of the bike failed to stop for a police officer who had his lights and siren on, and feld into a wooded area to the west of the Hazleton PennDot Driver's Center off of SR0309.
The defendant was apprehended and identified as 26-year-old, Giovanni Provanzo, of Drums.
A search incident to arrest uncovered a quantity of powder Cocaine.
He was charged with Misdemeanor 2 Fleeing and Eluding Police, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, and several summary traffic vioaltions. He will receive a summons from Magisterial District Judge Joseph Zola.
Chief of Police, Jerry Speziale, issued the following statement in a press release:
"We will continue to combat these dangerous quality of life issues with our aggressive driving funds."
