DRUMS, HAZLETON - Early Monday morning, shortly after 4 o'clock, Butler Township Police were dispatched to 22 Faith Drive, Sunrise Apartments for an assault victim, according to a press release.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with the female victim who reported being assaulted by her boyfriend Carlos Taveras-Tavarez.
Prior to police arrival, Carlos fled the residence on foot.
The victim claimed that she was struck in the head several times with a closed fist, kicked, and choked.
The victim reported losing consciousness following the assault.
Carlos was later located by Hazleton Police and taken into custody.
The following charges were filed against Carlos by means of a Police Criminal Complaint in District Court 11-3-03.
(1) Count of Aggravated Assault (FELONY)
(1) Count of Simple Assault (MISDEMEANOR)
(1) Count of Harassment (SUMMARY)
Carlos was arraigned by District Justice Daniel O’Donnell and held at the Luzerne County Prison on $75,000 straight cash bail.
At the time of the incident, Carlos was out on $150,000 bail for a felony drug case in Hazleton City.
