HAZLETON, Pa. -- On Monday, July 10th, a jury trail was held in Northampton Country Court in front of Senior Judge Williamson of Clinton County.
The defendant, 48-year-old, Sean Donahue of 625 Cleveland Street in Hazleton, was facing trial on the Misdemeanour 1 count of Terroristic Threats.
In 2015, Sean ran a campaign for the Hazleton Mayoral election.
The charges Sean faces stems from him sending an email to Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Galavants.
In the written communication to DA Salavantis, Sean made threats to engage in violence if his conditions were not satisfied.
After a 30 minute deliberation, the jury found Sean guilty of the lone count.
Bail was continued, and a sentence date is forthcoming, pending a pre-sentence investigation by Luzerne County Adult Probation.
Chief of Police, Jerry Speziale, issued the following statement via a press release:
"Members of the Hazleton Police Department, in conjunction with the Attorney Generals office, investigated this matter to its logical conclusion and helped to ensure that a prominent law enforcement official was afforded every protection under our system. Threats and retaliation against public officials for past official actions can never be tolerated in a free and open democratic society governed by the rule of law."
