HAZLETON HEADLINES
Last week, I spoke with Mayor Cusat to get his thoughts on council's supposed "attacks" from that Tuesday's council meeting. You can read that article here. That Friday, I then attempted to get individual comments from councilmen Jack Mundie and Jean Mope. Pictured below is the exact email I composed and sent to Hazleton's city clerk. It was on Monday, March 10th when only Jack Mundie would respond to my email. He had the following to say: Lucas, I don't think we have been attacking the Mayor. At the previous meeting I asked the Mayor about 500k that he transferred without telling us. If asking questions about money that is moved without our knowledge is attacking the Mayor then I plead guilty. Our job is to make sure our finances are in order. Cheers, Jack, Rather than giving me his thoughts on the Mayor's comments, he neglected my question and instead spoke of my wording. I had interpreted that the series of off topic questions directed to the Mayor courtesy of councilmen were in fact an attack.
In other words, councilmen were unleashing questions to Mayor Cusat. In other words, councilmen were striking Mayor Cusat with questions. In other words, councilmen were pouncing questions to Mayor Cusat. However, in the words I had chosen to use, councilmen were attacking Mayor Cusat with questions. Regardless of how you word my words, it's the same message being dispensed. Mayor Cusat was treated unfairly at the most recent council meeting. Period. As for council women, Jean Mope's comment, well, as always she opted to give none. Since November, I've continuously tried reaching out to Jean Mope only to be ignored. Allow me now to reiterate the words of Mayor Cusat. Hazleton City Council needs to focus on serving their community at the highest of standards. Our safety is questionable, when it shouldn't be. There's no room, nor time, to argue about one's administration. We voted for Cusat last November because we trusted that he'd usher in brighter days for Hazleton. So trust him now in who he hires to support his vision.
