HAZLETON - Shortly after 7 o'clock tonight, the Hazleton Police Department responded to a number of calls reporting an erratic driver traveling through the City of Hazleton while crashing into multiple vehicles, according to a press release.
Two of the vehicles struck were driving on the roadway and occupied.
Multiple jurisdictions, HPD, PASP, WHPD, and BTPD responded to this incident and stopped the vehicle, a Silver Nissan Armada SUV with heavy front end damage and airbag deployment bearing New Jersey registration, in the area of 15th and Locust Streets where it was blocked in by PASP and Hazleton Police unitis.
The operator of the vehicle was identified as William F McCarthy III. McCarthy was subsequently taken into custody and charged with Driving Under the Influence, Resisting Arrest, Accidents Involving Damage to Attended Vehicle(s) or Property, Duty to Give Information and Render Aid, Reckless Driving, and Driving while DUI Suspended. MCCARTHY was transported to LCCF and lodged to await overnight arraignment on these charges.
McCarthy is an officer with the Washington Township Police Department in Morris County, New Jersey.
