HAZLETON, Pa. -- On Saturday, July 15th, around 8:15 in the evening - as part of operation Pressure Point - Hazleton Police engaged in a pursuit for a man driving erratically in the city.
Hazleton Police, during saturation patrols, combined with members of the Hazleton Police Department, Butler Township and West Hazleton Police Departments were involved in a pursuit of an Acura TL bearing PA Registration.
The vehicle was pursued throughout the City of Hazleton when a man dumped the vehicle on East 2nd Street and fled on foot.
Shortly, thereafter, the suspect was apprehended after a foot pursuit that ended in a rear yard off Mead Court and East 2nd Street.
33-year-old, Junior Garcia - Santana, was the operator of the vehicle and was driving erratically with a suspended license, breaking numerous vehicle and traffic laws placing the public in danger.
Numerous Hazleton Police units were engaged in the pursuit, with their emergency equipment activated in an attempt to stop the vehicle.
Officers are combing the area to see if the driver discarded anything during the pursuit.
The situation is presently unfolding and charges are being prepared for (Felony), Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless Endangering, Resisting Arrest and numerous summary traffic violations, which involve driving down one way roadways, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, careless driving, reckless driving and numerous additional summary offenses.
Chief of Police, Jerry Speziale, issued the following statement via a press release:
