DRUMS - On Friday evening, around 11:40 PM, Butler Township Police were summoned to the 400 block of West Butler Drive where a car had struck several guiderais and then fled.
The vehicle, a 2004 Mercedes-Benz operated by Daneen Yankovich, 36, of Drums, then drove into a yard and struck a tree at the intersection of West Butler Drive and South Old Turnpike Road, which was approximately half a mile from the first accident.
The vehicle left the scene along South Old Turnpike Road.
Yankovich crashed head-on into a guiderail at the intersection of South Old Turnpike Road and South Beisels Road when she failed to negotiate a curve.
Yankovich was injured and was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton.
Charges against Yankovich are pending the outcome of forensic testing as a result of her exhibiting signs of intoxication.
The vehicle received substantial damage as a result of the accident.
Butler Township Police were assisted by Valley Regional Fire/EMS; West Hazleton and Conyngham Police.
