HAZLETON - Nirav Patel, the owner of Puffs-N-Pics located on 15th and Grant Streets, will be back in court on September, 16th, 2016.
Patel was charged with simple assault and two counts of reckless endangerment stemming from a shooting incident at his store on the morning of February 6th, 2016.
The charges were transferred to the Court of Common Pleas for a formal arraignment.
He is currently released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
Patel took action after a man entered his store wearing a hood (which is against store policy) and refusing to pay for an item.
He pursued the man with his gun, out of the store and attempted to stop him from fleeing in a Nissan Sedan.
As Patel attempted to shoot the console of the car, the car door struck him in the face and he shot the 23 year old man in the right hand.
He fired two more shots continuing to try to disable the vehicle.
The vehicle was located and towed from Fifth and Arthur Streets.
The suspect was treated for the non-life-threatening wounds.
The alleged robber who was identified as Michael Campbell by WBRE, is well known by the Hazleton Police.
He has been in trouble with the law since 2011.
Some of this years charges include; DUI: Controlled Substance, Driving while operating privileges suspended/revoked, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver along with other past crimes.
His next court date is September 6th, 2016.
He is also the unconfirmed driver that stole a car from his ex girlfriend at the Dollar General store on Diamond Avenue, leading the Hazleton Police on a car chase.
Per WBRE, his whereabouts are unknown at this time.
