FREELAND, Pa. -- In the early morning hours of Monday, June 18th, around 2 o'clock AM, Pennsylvania State Police out of Hazleton responded to the area of the Freeland Borough Park to investigate a report of a man with a gunshot wound.
Later, main stream local media reported that the victim of the shooting was 17-year-old, Anthony Bonney.
Initially, Anthony was transported to Lehigh Valley Hazleton Hospital and then transferred to Geisinger Wyoming Valley where he remained in critical condition for a few hours, before he was pronounced brain dead, according to Police and the victim's mother.
The alleged shooter, 18-year-old, Brandon Gambardella, of West Hazleton, was taken into custody where he's being charged with multiple accounts of Aggravated Assault.
As of this writing, there's no word if or when those charges will be upgraded.
According to court documents, Anthony met Brandon to sell him cocaine, which turned out to be dry wall shavings and baking soda.
