HAZLETON, Pa. -- On Wednesday, April 12th, at approximately 1:29 in the early morning, there was a call for a fight at the Station 33 Bar on Diamond Avenue in the City of Hazleton.
Corporal Scott Nicholas was in the area of Diamond Avenue and Wyoming when he exited his patrol car because he heard what he believed to be gunshots in the area.
While out of his vehicle on foot Corporal Nicholas was almost hit by a Blue Buick Verano occupied by three males.
The window was down in the vehicle and Nicholas noticed the driver covered with blood on his face.
Corporal Nicholas then verbally instructed the driver to pull his vehicle over when the driver ignored his commands and while attempting to flee hit an occupied vehicle stopped at the light on Wyoming Street and Diamond Avenue.
The vehicle then quickly backed up and began to flee the area when Corporal Nicholas entered his marked patrol vehicle, notified Luzerne County Communications, activated his emergency equipment and began to pursue the vehicle.
Corporal Nicholas was assisted by Corporal Mario Howey from the Hazleton Police Department, Butler Township Police, Pennsylvania State Police and West Hazleton Police Department.
The vehicle then fled at high rates of speed in a reckless manner for several blocks when the operator apparently attempted to make a turn and lost control of his vehicle hitting three parked vehicles on West Diamond Avenue and Peace Street causing substantial damage to them. Deleon’s vehicle and two other vehicles were towed from the scene.
The driver, Deleon, exited his vehicle on foot attempting to flee when he was quickly apprehended by Corporal Mario Howey and a Trooper from the Pennsylvania State Police.
The other two occupants, Peralta and Liriano were apprehended by Corporal Nicholas and members of the West Hazleton Police Department and Pennsylvania State Police.
The three males were immediately removed from the scene by EMS to LVHH.
Recovered from the vehicle was the following:
The driver, 20-year-old, Marquis Alberto DeLeon, of Hazleton will be charged with the following:
Passengers, Jose Miguel Peralta, 29, of Huntigdon, Pa. and Carlos Miguel Liriano, 19, of West Hazleton will be charged with (3) Counts Possession with Intent to Distribute Controlled Substance.
DeLeon and Liriano were flown out of LVHH to an area trauma center and a warrant will be issued for their arrest upon their release.
Jose Peralta will be arraigned later Wednesday morning by Justice Joseph Zola in Hazleton.
