HAZLETON - Earlier this afternoon, the Hazleton Headlines published an article claiming that the Hazleton Area School District were banning the use of backpacks.
HAZLETON - On Tuesday morning, school officials announced that backpacks would be banned in all schools across the district, effective immediately.
HAZLETON - According to the Standard Speaker, the PA Department of Education has reportedly shot down the Hazleton Area School District's plans to transition to a four-day school week during the winter months of this school year.

HAZLETON - On Friday, the Hazleton Headlines published an article claiming that PA State Representative, Tarah Toohil spoke with the Standard Speaker, suggesting that the HASD school board cut art and music so that Kindergarten could have full day classes, rather than half day ones.
HAZLETON - In under a month, school will be in session once again. Though earlier this summer, the school board approved four day school weeks for December, January, and February; with Mondays being completely dropped. In addition to that, Kindergarten half days were also passed.
Rebecca Schell, 12th grade student at the Hazleton Area Academy of Sciences, will travel to Texas this November to participate in the National Association for Music Education, NAfME, All-National Honors Ensembles where she will play the Contra-alto Clarinet in the concert band.
