HAZLETON - Early Sunday morning at 3:34 am the Hazleton Police Department were dispatched to Convenient Mart at 51 West Juniper Street in Hazleton to investigate the report of a robbery, according to a press release.
Upon arrival and investigation it was determined that a light skinned hispanic male attempted to purchase a cigar.
Upon trying to make the purchase the register was opened by the female clerk and the male reached over into the register and grabbed an undetermined amount of cash.
The clerk attempted to pull away, when the male forcibly took the money and fled on foot.
Officer Colton Kishel arrived at the store and obtained pertinent information by viewing surveillance video and relaying the information to the officers in the field.
A short time later, Officer Scott Greene observed a male with the identical clothing and description in the area of 3rd and Alter Streets.
Greene further investigated and the male subsequently identified as Steve Salcedo attempted to hide behind a vehicle.
After being spotted by Greene Salcedo fled on foot and was apprehended after a foot chase.
Corporal Joseph Babula, Michael Colasurdo and Colton Kishel responded to the area and the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody.
Salcedo was found to be in possession of a crack pipe and the stolen proceeds (Cash).
Charges were completed on Steve Saucedo, 27, for Robbery, Theft, Receiving Stolen Property, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was transported to Luzerne County Correctional Facility for overnight arraignment.
Chief of Police, Jerry Speziale, issued the following statements:

“The message should be clear, if you commit a crime in Hazleton, we will quickly bring you to face justice.”
