WEST HAZLETON, Pa. -- In December of 2016, the West Hazleton Police Department was notified of two minor children that were reportedly sexually assaulted at a home in West Hazleton.
Upon further investigation it was discovered the incidents occurred between 2007 and 2010, while the victims were visiting a family member's residence, and the assailant was identified as Armando Vargas-Rios.
At the conclusion of the investigation, police obtained an arrest warrant for Vargas-Rios.
After numerous attempts to locate Vargas-Rios were unsuccessful, the Department turned to the public for assistance.
As a result of that assistance, Vargas-Rios was taken into custody earlier today without incident.
Armando Vargas-Rios was arraigned by District Justice James Dixon for (2) felony counts of Rape of a Child, (2) felony counts of Aggravated Indecent Assault of a Child, (2) felony counts of Indecent Assault, (2) misdemeanor counts of Indecent Exposure and Corruption of Minors.
He was lodged in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility after being unable to post $250,000 bail.
The West Hazleton Police Department was assisted by the Hazleton Police Department Detective Division and the Luzerne County District Attorney's Office.
