HAZLETON, Pa. -- Sunday morning, Chief of Police, Jerry Speziale sent out the following letter to the press on building trust and legitimacy between Hazleton Police and the community.
The City of Hazleton Police Department is focused on expanding the role of our Community Policing Initiative by enhancing neighborhood and community based training programs pertaining to gang awareness, block/crime watch, and building trust and legitimacy with the community.
The department wants to further expand the utilization of our interactive Police Website, www.hazletonpolice.com and "text for tips," by texting anonymous information, by typing the word mytips (No quote or separation) to 274637
Our Community Policing Initiative incorporates the Crime-Watch program and is looking to expand it throughout the City of Hazleton. Through this, we are interested in creating new and expanding existing crime watch organizations, in an effort to mediate and resolve quality of life and common neighborhood issues. On a broader scale, we want to partner with all the faith based and community organizations to help organize groups citywide.
The department is interested in further building partnerships with members of the local businesses community to avert and resolve issues, which inadvertently may be contributing to quality of life problems in certain neighborhoods, such as late or all-night night business establishments. We are looking to bring together and establish more Community Crime-watch leaders and business owners to engage in meaningful dialog designed to find common ground and put forth recommendations for a safer Hazleton.
Please contact me to arrange for future meetings and discussions to build and establish these groups.
